Most People when talking about Earning Money, will talk in reference to buying a lot of Bling. Big New Homes, Fancy New Cars, High Price Designer Clothes, Big Boats, Vacation Homes, and all the other Toys that come with an Expensive Price Tag.
Then there are others who don't ever use the word Bling.  They don't understand it and have no desire to have it.
These are some of my friends.  They would rather buy a cheap old piece of junk auto and spend days working on it to make it run.  They will buy new speakers, seat covers, and polish all the rust and dents.  And they don't care if breaks down tomorrow, they will just fix it again. But they are just as Happy with that car as  someone else would be buying a new car from a dealer.
They live in a Trailer.   They don't own it, they just rent. Why?  Because it's cheap.
They buy their clothes at WalMart and Target.  Their home is filled with odds and ends that they pick up at garage sales.
They live to sit on their old dog hair covered sofa to watch a Game or their favorite TV show. They never go to the movies, and they seldom ever go out to eat.
Their whole life is based on not spending too much money.
They don't concentrate on how to make more money, they concentrate on how to save money.
But here is the Big Point of it all ... they are Happy.  Have less stress than those of us who always try to strive to have more.
I tried to talk to a friend of mine the other day about why he keeps fixing the old car he has.  I suggested that if he bought a new car he wouldn't have to worry about it breaking down all the time.  And in the long run he would save a lot of time and money.
He just looked at me with a look like I was the dumbest person on earth.
I talked to him about working overtime and making some extra cash and he responded with "why work for overtime when it just pays the extra taxes because of  the higher income bracket it puts you in. You're just working for the Government."
So I asked some of my friends what they would do with some extra money.

Watch How some of these answers all lead to the same results.

What would you do if everyday you got a check in the mail for $100?
How would you spend the money?

Where's the money coming from?
How do I know the Check is good?

Ok , let's say the $100 is in cash in an empty envelope.  It's an inheritance from a relative that put you in their will. And you will receive $100 a day for the rest of your life.

I don't have any relatives with that kind of money.
And besides they wouldn't give me any of it.

OK, let's say it is from the Government, because they  over collected taxes from you, and now they are paying you back in allotments of $100 a day.

Oh Hell, they'll just want to take it back later.
And after taxes I won't have any left.

At this point I just wanted to slap him up side of his head.
He just wasn't going to have any acceptance of getting an extra $100 a day.
He never thinks about making extra money, so he can't visulalize getting an extra $100 a day.
OK, you have extra space on your property here.  I have a friend who needs a place to park his Motor Home.  He would be willing to pay you $100 a week to let him put his Motor Home on your property.

Yeah, he'll give me $100 a week just to park his Motor Home out there?
Sure ... tell him to bring it over.

OK, now tell me what you are going to do with the extra $10 a week.

Hmmm  I'll go buy some beer and snacks for the weekend and invite my buddies over for the Game on Sunday.

That's a  lot of beer and snacks.  Are you going to spend the whole $100 on Beer and snacks?

Yeah, I'll invite several of my buddies , we'll have a big party. Maybe we'll order Pizza too.

Ok .. let me call my friend and ask him about Parking his Motor Home out here.

I pretended to make the call.  I came back to my friend.

Good News, he wants to do it.  He asked if you had any extra room because he has others friends that have Motor Homes also and they would be willing to pay the same.

I could park a couple more out there I suppose, but I have a friend, Paul, he could use an extra $100.  He'll park one on his property.  And maybe Daniel, he would too.

OK, I know of  7 Motor Homes that could be parked out here.
That would be 5 for you and an extra $500 a week.
Now there is no way you would spend $500 on a Sunday party.

Oh Hell no, we could have a Monday Night Football Party too.

Why not make it a real Party and hire a couple of cute Cheerleaders to serve your beer and Pizza?  And they could do cheers during the game and during half time.

Damn,  that would be crazy.  My Buddies would go nuts over that.  Hell you never see the damn Cheerleaders on TV anymore.

OK, now I know you won't spend all of that $500 on the parties.  What would you do with the rest of it.

Hell I don't know.  Maybe buy a new tailgate for my pick up truck down at the wrecking yard.  My Buddy Steve needs a new starter for his Chevy, maybe I could pick him up one at the wrecking yard while I'm there.

Did you notice a pattern to his thoughts of how to spend his extra money?
He didn't really spend the money on himself.
He shared it with his friends.
He did things that made him Happy.
He likes to be around his friends.
He thinks of his friends when he can help.
He wanted nothing Brand New for himself.

So talking to this guy about buying new cars, a new house, new clothes, and other toys for himself is just a waste of time. He ain't interested.

I grew up in a family like this.  We lived on very little.  Everyone lived in one house.
My Aunt supported everyone. She would get up at midnight and go down ot the Donut Shop and cook donuts all day. She literally worked herslf to death.
My Aunt, her daughter and 4 kids, my Grandmother, my Dad, My Uncle, and myself all lived in the same house.  We had beds in the living room. We close off the garage and made it a bedroom. My Dad and Uncle were drunks.  They never contributed to the house.  They made money by working on the farms in the area. They weren't allowed in the house drunk, so they lived in cardboard and plywood huts built under the Tamaisk tress near the farms.
We drove old cars that needed fixing all the time.
Whe I was asked what I wanted fo rmy birthday one year, I think I was 10 or 11.  I said that I would like to go out and have a steak dinner.  I look back now and wonder ... why did I choose that?
I use to order things out of the magazines to go sell door to door.
I tried selling some useless salve to people that was supposed to be good for bites and burns.  Now we know not ot put greese on burns.
I wanted more out of life than I had.
I grew up in Palm Springs, CA.  Home to the Stars. I met several actors and actresses on a daily basis. They just walked the streets like anyone else.  But boy did they have nice homes and cars.
I remember delivering newspapers in the Las Palmas area of Palm Springs.  Almost all the stars lived there.  On my route I had Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Mary Martin, Donna Shore, Kirk Douglas, Red Skelton, Liberace, Jack Benny, and so many more.
I was surrounded by riches and success.  But I lived in poverty.  Why?
I started reading motivational books.  Think and Grow Rich, The Greatest Salesman in the World.  I enjoyed these.
I studies history, because I just couldn't understand what they were teaching us in school.  Why was Columbus given credit for discovering America?  I questioned  our books all the time in school.

I was never contempt with what I had.  I have always wanted more.

So why is it that some people want everything and others only want a little or don't think about what they want.
So have Dreams and some don't.

A short note on two of my other friends.
One was a gentleman who had 19 kids with the same wife.
He never had a great paying job or any big money.
But he had a great family. All the kids were great.
I always saw them happy.
Hell I saw him out on the roof of his house one day and he had to be in his 60's .
His name was Henry.  His wife was always so friendly and Happy.

Another one of my friends answered my question about extra money with a differnet answer, but one which confused me as much as my first friend.
He would take the extra money and go buy a Brand New sports car.  Of course it would just be a down payment and he would have large monthly payments and insurance.
He wouldn't be any better off that he was, but he would have that Brand New sports car.  I guess he would be Happy.
