Wide shot of padmount transformer at solar farm project

Maddox Keeps Solar on Schedule

Thomas’s solar company had a reputation for doing quality work on time. They needed a transformer partner who would do the same.

“When we commit to a date, we do everything we can to hit that date. That's what makes our customers pretty happy,” says Thomas Westman, senior project engineer at Axium Solar.

After handling solar projects from carports to commercial rooftops, Axium had distinguished themselves as doing excellent work on time.

So when they had a project needing completion by the end of 2025, they were ready to get to work.

The project was an 8–12 MW ground-mounted solar site, with four separate utility interconnections feeding multiple offtakers. A local farmer was building a solar site on his land that could feed power to four other sites. This was more than power generation. This was an owner putting his land to work while staying in the farming business.

Axium was ready to step up. But they needed a supplier to do the same. And after years of doing business with Maddox, they knew who to call.

“So when Axium Solar is looking for suppliers, we’re looking for reliability and quality with good lead times and decent pricing,” said Thomas.

So he called Maddox, and he talked to Shawn. “He came back with a good price and a lead time that met the project’s needs,” Thomas says. “We’ve found that Maddox can return a quote much faster than most of the competition. That helps our process when we’re estimating projects to get that information quickly and efficiently.”

Maddox kept the project on schedule  delivering six padmounts ranging 500-2000 kVA.

  • Two 500 kVA 34500 GY 19920 - 600 Y 347 units,
  • Two 750 kVA 34500 GY 19920 - 600 Y 347 units, and

Maddox delivered, and Axium met its deadline.

“We would recommend Maddox for any other EPCs that have need of transformers,” Thomas says.
